The term Unconditional love is a word I believe many people have heard but only few understands.
Some of us even wonder if it’s possible to love someone unconditionally based on how tricky, arrogant and selfish people are becoming or have become. If you are such a person, I want you to know that it’s possible even though it’s not easy.
In this article you will come to understand what unconditional love really means and why it’s important for us to love people unconditionally.
WHAT IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE?
Wikipedia.org defines unconditional love as affection without any limitations, or love without conditions.
Personally I agree with that definition. Loving someone without adding conditions to it is what unconditional love is all about. Loving someone even when you know they don’t deserve sums up the meaning of unconditional love.
Consider what Apostle said to the church in Rome about unconditional love;
This sums it up.
Apostle Paul was simply saying that Christ died for us even when we don’t deserve it to demonstrate His love for us.
Hear this; I know it’s not easy for us to demonstrate and show people love even when they offend us but I want you to know that it is possible for us to love people despite there ignorance and arrogance.
WHY WE SHOULD PRACTICE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.
Hear this Brethren’s and remember it as long as you live;
It is the practice of everyone who says He or she loves God. This is so because you cannot claim to love God and then hate His image. The only way you can demonstrate your love for God is to love His creations that are made in His image (man).
Many consider unconditional love as a practice that is impossible or almost impossible because though they claim to love God, they don’t know what it means and takes to love God. Like I have said earlier, it’s an error to love God and then hate His Image.
WHYS MOST BELIEVERS FIND IT DIFFICULT TO LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY.
One major reason a lot of us are struggling and finding it difficult to understand unconditional love and then practice it is because of one thing. FORGIVENESS.
A lot of people cannot love because they cannot forgive. It is almost impossible for someone who cannot or struggle to forgive to love someone let alone love them unconditionally.
A lot of us don’t even understand why we should love in the first place. We don’t understand why you should offend them and then expect them to respond with love.
Most of us would have heard this term;
I will forgive but I won’t forget. I really understand that it’s not easy to forget somethings, but if you really want to forgive and successfully practice unconditional love, you have to learn to forgive and forget.
The good book puts it this way;
We have to get to the point where we forget totally the things someone have done to us or the pain other people caused us. I want you to know that you are likely to one day hurt the person who has offended you if you keep remembering what He or she did to you in the past.
Remembering the pains and offence of the past has a way of fueling your anger which then causes you to retaliate. I am speaking from experience now. You give room for the devil to come in if you keep revisiting the pains someone caused you in the past.
The ideal response is to forgive and then let go.
One day a disciple asked Jesus Christ how many times they should forgive someone who offends them. Take note of what Jesus Christ said;
Matthew 18:21-22 (KJV)
Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times?
Take note; 70 x 7 equals 490. This for me simply means that you don’t have to keep offense. Because I don’t see how just one person will offend you for 490 times.

One day someone said to me that some people don’t deserve his love. I gave a simple answer that will change your life if you let it. I said;
It’s true that some people don’t deserve your love. But it’s also true that you don’t deserve the love you get from the one who gave you life (JEHOVAH GOD).
If God decides to be repaying us according to our offense and sins, most of us will not last for a day. But He loves us despite our imperfection and He expects you to do the same.
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have [b]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead” – Philippians 3:13 (NKJV)
Unconditional love is not an impossible practice for those that knows God and have decided to follow his ways. A man who walks in love is greater than a preacher that hates.
CHARACTERISTICS OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.
According the word of God, here are some of the characteristics of true love. It is my prayer that you should know them and walk in them.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV);
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
I know it’s not easy to show love to people after they have offended you but it is paramount and important for us to do it.
Unconditional love is the way forward for all believers. And I want us to remember that God loves us despite our own flaws.
Love everyone unconditionally. Only that Way can you boldly say that you are a kingdom citizen and a follower of Christ. And remember this;
We are all living by the grace and mercies of JEHOVAH GOD.
